James Bond Spectre Teaser Trailer

This trailer turned up on 007.com on Friday 27 March 2015. And it’s a stunning piece of work.

I love it. There’s no action. It’s all about the dialogue and mood, yet it results in something very suspenseful.

It’s wonderful to see and hear (a rather disheveled looking) Jesper Christensen return as Mister White from Casino Royale, who one assumes will impart some information about Spectre to Bond.

“You’re a kite dancing in a hurricane, Mister Bond” he says. Wonderful dialog.

I’m excited about this movie.

The 100 Season 2 Episode 12 Rubicon

The Mountain Man that Clarke set free at the end of the last episode is running back to Mount Weather. His air runs out and he crawls towards the hatch. Then we see a figure who leans down and plugs in a fresh air bottle. This figure is not wearing a radiation suit. It’s the vampire looking son of the president! Obviously he’s had the bone marrow treatment so he can survive outside.

Inside the mountain the Ark kids are in lockdown. The doors open and evil doctor Tori from Battlestar enters with some armed guards. They take another Ark kid as a victim. Tori says the kids are important to them.

Back at the Ark crash site Clark is worried that there has been no word from Bellamy.
Raven is looking into blowing up the dam to cut power to the mountain. There is a meeting of the twelve grounder clans imminent and they are all waiting for Clarke to give the go for the attack on the Mountain Men.

Just as Clarke starts to despair Bellamy calls in. Clarke tells him he needs to find the lab where they are taking the Ark kids. Raven has set up some sort of mobile radio link so he can keep in touch on the way.

Clarke wants to buy time. She was supposed to go to the grounder settlement of Ton DC (Washington DC, get it?) for the meeting with the twelve clans (all very biblical). She decides to send Marcus instead.

Abby approaches Marcus before he leaves and gives him a note that Jaha left. He took twelve people and some weapons to go off and find his City of Light. Twelve people, very biblical.

So let’s catch up with Jaha. He and his twelve followers are walking through a desert type landscape. There they find a lone native girl who is struggling with her cart. She says she was traveling with her brother when some Waste-landers attacked. Jaha tells Murphy to give her some water. She says she will guide them to the City of Light.

In the mountain Bellamy is in a ventilation duct making his way to the lab. He knows he’s going in the right direction when he hears the sound of a drill. He is able to listen in and observe what is going on. The guy that Clarke freed, Emerson, is geting the latest treatment. And the kid they took is now dead.

Emerson is telling the vampire looking guy about the grounder army that Clarke made up. The new president says they will take care of things by firing a missile at the impending war council meeting at Ton DC.

So Bellamy hears this and because of the radio link up Clarke can hear it too. (It’s all a bit convenient but I’ll forgive it as it moves things along.) Clarke is horrified at the news about the missile. She decides to go to Ton DC to warn everyone. Bellamy asks about Octavia. Clarke lies to him and says Octavia is not at Ton DC as she does not want him to worry about his sister.

In the Dead Zone Murphy is befriending the native lady. He admits to her that he is a bad guy who has killed people. In return she takes off her glove to reveal her big mutant hand that she has to hide. Murphy says it’s bad ass.

In the mountain some guards come for another Ark person. Jasper tries to organise resistance but is pretty useless. A guard grads him and pulls home to one side and it turns out to be Bellamy in riot gear. He gives Jasper a gun and tells him to fight more effectively next time.

Next we see a guard bringing the former president his meal in a quarantine room where he is being held prisoner. It turns out to Bellamy and he asks the president for help. The president says he might be able to help Bellamy slow down the bone marrow processing but we don’t get to hear what it is.

Clarke arrives at Ton DC. She heads straight for commander Lexa and asks to talk to her alone as she knows that the Mountain Men are probably watching. Inside the subway building she tells Lexa about the missile. Lexa says Mount Weather must not know Clarke has been warned about the missile as it will compromise Bellamy. Lexa says she is going to allow the missile attack to happen while she and Clarke slip away.

Clarke is horrified that they could allow the missile to kill everyone else, including the representatives of the twelve clans. Lexa says Clarke already knows this is the only way. Clarke seems to come to the same conclusion.

Out in the desert Jaha’s group encounters an armed man on horseback. It turns out that the girl with the big mutant hand has tricked them. She holds a knife to Murphy’s throat. Jaha’s people are ordered to to disarm. She then whispers something to Murphy before knocking him out.

Octavia is on patrol in the forest around Ton DC. She finds Lincoln in semi-reaper mode. She manages to subdue him because, hey, Octavia is now seriously badass.

Murphy wakes up. Jaha’s followers are pretty pissed off as they have no food, water or weapons. Some want to go back to the Ark camp. Murphy tells them the girl whispered “Due north” to him. He and Jaha think that is where the City of Light must be. Some of them continue on.

Leaving Ton DC under cover of darkness Clarke sees her mother unexpectedly arrive. She separates from Lexa and goes back to get her mother away from danger.

In the settlement Marcus and Indra confer. No one has seen Clarke or Lexa for a while. They are worried and agree to search the woods.

In the mountain the vampire looking guy orders the missile launch.

This is all getting extremely tense.

The missile launches. It only takes a few seconds of flight to get from Mount Weather to Ton DC.

Ton DC is toast.

Clarke was caught at the edge of the blast. She comes to and finds Abby beside her. Abby realises that Clarke knew about the missile launch in advance. It is safe to say that Abby pissed off with Clarke.

Clark says that Abby can never tell anyone this. If the other clans found out it could destroy the alliance. Abby says she will keep the secret but this is blood that is on Clarke’s hands and it can’t be washed off

In the mountain some guards and evil doctor Tori come for another kid. They select one. Jasper then shoots a guard with his handgun. But the guard looks ok, he must be wearing a bulletproof vest.

After this Tori orders they take Jasper instead. Oh, and search the others for hidden weapons, she suggests.

Jasper is taken to the lift which will take him to the medical level. Just then Tori and the other guards gets sick. It’s a containment breach! We then see Bellamy in a room with machinery where he is messing around with the air filtration system. He has been following the original president’s instructions to slow down the bone marrow processing.

Back in the corridor it looks like Tori is toast as she’s getting covered in radiation burns. She pleads with Jasper. He coldly tells her she must know how important she is to them as she dies. Jasper is able to free his people and they now have control of level 5.

After the containment breach the vampire looking son visits his former president father. It is fair to say he is annoyed. Who did it? he asks. His father won’t tell him anything. Then the vampire looking dude gives his father a bone marrow treatment. You’ll thank me someday, he says.

Back in Ton DC we see Octavia and Lincoln enter the blast zone from the woods, shocked at the destruction. Clarke is there and looks on horrified.

And of course it his all her fault. She was the one who told Emerson about the Grounder army that didn’t exist. This is what provoked the missile attack.

I do love a bit of murky moral dilemma.

So another strong episode. Will the alliance hold out long enough to attack Mount Weather? Will Bellamy free the Grounder captives? Damn, this is a fun show.

The 100 season 2 episode 11 Coup de Grace

After the tense cliffhanger from last week the captured Bellamy is going through a decontamination regime before being brought into the Mount Weather facility. Note, It looks really unpleasant.

Elsewhere in the mountain Jasper is upset about Monty and Harper being missing so he resolves to go and do something stupid.

Outside two Mountain Men in radiation suits are watching Clarke on horseback. One has a gun and it appears that she is the target they have been hunting. Then Octavia appears in Grounder battle warpaint and kicks some serious ass under direction of her new Grounder boss. One Mountain Man gets dispatched and the other one has his suit damaged. Octavia then finds photos of Clarke and Lexa. Clarke has been targeted for assassination.

In Mount Weather Bellamy is put in a cage. He soon makes friends with Grounder Chick in the next cage. When I say friends I mean she only spits at him when she learns his is of the Sky People. He is trying to break his way out of the cage but she tells him to calm down as the Mountain Men pick the strongest candidates.

Elsewhere in the mountain Jasper goes to see the president and demands to know where Monty and Harper are. He grabs the sword on display on the president’s desk and holds it to the president’s throat.

The Ark people want to keep the Mountain Man prisoner alive as he could be useful to finding a way into Mount Weather. Abby is upset that Clarke was targeted by the Mountain Men.

In the cage area someone comes for a prisoner to bleed. They go for Grounder Chick in the cage next to Bellamy. He starts being all active so they go for him instead. They zap him with their taser devices so he’s more manageable. Bellamy is then strung up and they start pumping his blood into someone in medical transfusion room.

As luck would have it Maya is in there looking for a clue as to the whereabouts of Jasper’s friends. She notices the transfusion patient is recovering much more quickly than normal and investigates. She finds Bellamy and realises he is from the Ark. She frees him but a guard called Lovejoy appears. With help from Maya and Grounder Chick reaching out of her cage Bellamy kills the guard. He dresses in the guard’s uniform and disposes of the body. He promises Grounder Chick he will come back and free her.

Maya tells Bellamy that given the limited number of people living there everyone in the mountain will notice a new face. This gives rise to a nice tense scene in an elevator with another passenger becoming aware that Bellamy is bleeding. Yet again Maya saves the day. Quite a useful person to have around is Maya.

Jasper and the president arrive in the medical place where the unfortunate Harper is about to have another bone marrow extraction process performed on her while Monty watches from a cage. The president orders that she and Monty should be freed and Doctor Tori From Battlestar to be locked up. He promises Jasper he and his people will go home.

The president goes to his vampire looking son to have words. He ordered the son to be arrested but the guards do nothing. So it seems we have a coup d’├ętat in the mountain as the men are loyal to the son; they want to go to the surface. Now the vampire looking son is president.

Back at the Ark camp the surviving Mountain Man has been healed from his radiation sickness by a transfusion from an Ark person. He is locked up in an airlock but he refuses to talk. Marcus wants to open the door as an incentive to make him talk but Abby stops him.

Then they get the blood test back. There are genetic markers that indicate he has already had transfusions of Ark people blood from the kids in the mountain. When Clarke hears this she wants to kill him buy opening the airlock door. Again it is
Abby who stops her.

At this point it occurs to me after seeing the vampire looking son take over from his president father in Mount Weather that maybe we will have a bit of a juxtaposition going on with Clarke having a coup of her own…

Back in the mountain Bellamy and Maya are on the on way to the dorm where his people are. They pass a sort of Mount Weather school for small kiddies. One little boy talks to Bellamy and says his father is a guard and has applied to go on missions above ground. Then as the boy walks off Bellamy sees the name tag. It’s Lovejoy. He realises it’s the kid of the man he killed in the cage place.

Jasper returns to his dorm unaware about the coup. He tells his people to get their stuff as they they are going. Bellamy and Maya arrive at a corridor leading to the dorm just as the dorm is put into lockdown. Jasper and the others are locked inside. Bellamy asks Maya to take him to the radio transmitter they rigged up previously.

Bellamy sends a message and talks to Clarke. She asks him to set the caged Grounders free. They are the Trojan horse army already in the mountain.

Then she goes and frees the mountain man in direct contravention to Abby’s decision.

And here comes the coup d’├ętat juxtaposition. Abby is annoyed that Clarke is letting the man go. She wants to keep him prisoner.

“You may be the chancellor but I’m in charge,” says Clarke.
“People will get hurt,” says Abby.
“Not if you get out of my way,” comes Clarke’s reply.
“The Grounders trust Clarke maybe we should too,” murmurs Marcus to Abby.

So just like that we have our Ark coup. Clarke is in charge.

(Clarke is totally badass. I can’t wait to see her go all Ripley on Mount Weather.)

So they let the guy go. Clarke tells him that they have a large Grounder army on the way and the Mount Weather people have this one chance to let their people go. She asks how long it will take to get to the mountain. Apparently it will be eight hours. She then let’s air out of his tanks so he has only six hours of air left. Better get moving, buddy.

So what big Grounder army is that? Clarke says there isn’t one but it will keep Mount Weather looking out to distract them from the army inside.

This was a brilliant episode that moves things along. It is perhaps convenient that Maya is there to give so much help to Bellamy by guiding him through the mountain. But I’ll buy it.

No sign of Lincoln. Or indeed Jaha who is on his quest for the City of Light.

The 100 Season 2 Episode 10 Survival of the Fittest

Ok, this was a strong episode…

Bellamy is with Lincoln heading to Mount Weather as agreed in the last episode. Lincoln disguises himself as Reaper using some animal blood and tribal type markings. The plan is to take Bellamy inside as his “prisoner”. Lincoln mentions how the prisoners were split into two groups, “harvest” and “Cerberus”. Bellamy recognises the mythological reference about the dog that guarded the entrance to the underworld because his mother read stories to Octavia as a child.

This leads them on to the subject of Octavia. Bellamy asks why Lincoln saved her life originally. Lincoln tells a story about finding a “sky person” who had fallen from the Ark in a drop ship. He tried to help the stranger but his father made him kill the man. Nice happy ending there, Lincoln. But I am very intrigued that others may have made it to earth before the 100.

Back at the Ark crash site some Grounders lead by Indra arrive on some sort of “get to know each other” exercise.

They really don’t get on. One Grounder recognises Murphy as they guy who was with Finn during the village massacre. He’s a bit upset that Murphy didn’t intervene to stop Finn. Before you can say “oh dear” a fight breaks out between the Grounder and Murphy and soon spreads.

And I can’t help thinking “that Grounder has a point”.

Elsewhere in the Grounder army camp Clarke is in the war room (well, tent really) with the commander. They are discussing attacking Mount Weather. Clarke is urging that they wait until Bellamy reports back. But the Grounders are impatient to attack. One Grounder guy wants no part of the alliance because his brother was burned all crispy by Clarke when they attacked the drop ship at the end of season 1.

And I can’t help thinking “that Grounder has a point”.

Clarke goes walking through the woods. She realises she’s being tracked by the Grounder who doesn’t like her. Next thing he sends an arrow towards her.

She runs away and takes cover. Someone approaches and Clarke raises her gun. She’s relieved to see that it is the lady Ark solder who is sort of in charge of the Ark military.

She approaches and turns. Bloody hell, she has an arm missing!

“Save yourself,” she says to Clarke before falling dead.

Back at the Ark site the previous Councillor Jaha tries to befriend Murphy, perhaps looking for some ant-Grounder allies. He asks for Murphy to take him to his son’s grave.

Outside Grounders are punching each other in some macho show of strength thing. Ark guards are doing gun shooting practice. One Grounder is interested in the guns. Marcus offers to let him shoot but the Grounder leader Indra says no. Octavia explains how the Grounders have an aversion to picking up guns. The story goes if they pick one up the whole village dies. Apparently this prohibition was planted by the Mountain Men to stop attacks. Marcus muses how Octavia understands the Grounders.

Off in the forrest Clarke is about to be killed by that Grounder dude who doesn’t like her. The commander turns up and saves her. The guy admits to having a quarrel with Clarke but denies killing the soldier lady. The Grounder commander says its up to Clarke to kill him. Clarke seems to be considering shooting him without really wanting to.

Then they are interrupted by a scary animal call. The Grounder commander cuts the dude on the leg so he can’t run and instead will be bait. They run to an old overgrown zoo and it turns out they are being chased by a gorilla. There follows a pretty exciting sequence where the commander almost gets killed but Clarke saves her. They take refuge in an old cage and bar the door with the commander’s sword. (For a moment I thought the commander was going to be toast. On any other show I’d not be all that worried.)

Back at the Ark site Octavia insists on taking part in a Grounder fight and and promptly gets her ass kicked and handed to her.

In the zoo Clarke and the commander talk. The commander says Clarke should have let her die. She says if she died then her spirit will find another commander. Clarke realises she’s talking about reincarnation. The commander asks how Clarke’s people chose a leader but they are interrupted by the gorilla. It’s about to break in so they manage to hide by the door and let it in before getting out and locking the door from the outside.

As they escape Clarke realises that the key to taking Mount Weather is to use the army of Grounders who are already inside. Bellamy will be key to letting the captives escape their cages.

Back at the ark Octavia is getting patched up (and not by Abby who I realise must have this week off). Indra visits and talks to her. Indra is impressed that Octavia didn’t give up. She offers to let Octavia be her apprentice and train her in the ways of the force, sorry, of being a Grounder.

Later Marcus says he wants Octavia to get in with the Grounders so she can report back. She asks if he wants her to spy. He says he just wants her to look out for her own people. She ambiguously says she already is.

Murphy takes Jaha to the drop ship where the dead of the original 100 were buried so he can say goodby to his son. There are an awful lot of burial mounds and it’s a sobering sight. Murphy imparts the pleasant circumstances on how Wells died. He was stabbed in the neck by a twelve year old girl. Why, asks Jaha aghast. Because she couldn’t get to you, responds Murphy.

They spend the night in the drop ship and talk. In the morning a bunch of Ark folk turn up and Jaha tells Murphy he’s taking them to the City of light he heard about in the desert. He asks Murphy to join him on his quest even though he doesn’t know where the city is or how to get there. It appears that Murphy is going to joint him.

Bellamy and Lincoln are finally in the underworld. They discuss the plan. Lincoln will cause a distraction when the door opens and Bellamy will run inside. They hear more Reapers approaching with prisoners and Lincoln is having second thoughts. Bellamy insists they continue on. When the time comes Lincoln will grab the Reaper drug and cause a commotion.

Bellamy is taken to the door with the other prisoners. Some Mountain folk appear in radiation suits and produce the red drug they give the Reapers. They go down the line of Reapers, each of whom kneels to receive the drug. Bellamy eyes Lincoln, waiting for him to cause the commotion.

The suited figure gets to Lincoln. Lincoln hesitates and then kneels. He passively accepts the drug. The final look on Bellamy’s face is priceless as he’s selected for harvest and Lincoln is completely out of it.

That was a very tense minute or two leading up to the cliffhanger because I had no idea of how it was going to go. In hindsight Lincoln’s reluctance to continue with the plan was probably to do with the proximity to the Reaper drugs he was weaned off.

Very strong episode. Can’t wait for the next one.

The 100 Season 2 Episode 9 Remember Me

So Finn is dead at Clarke’s hand to spare him a grizzly burning to death situation. She talks to the Grounder commander to see if the long awaited truce is on. She’s keen to go attack Mount Weather already. The commander agrees that the truce will begin when they burn Finn’s remains along with his victims back at the village.

Clarke tells her people this. Raven in particular is not happy with this development. Clarke overrules everone and says they must go to the village to see the ritual and start the truce.

Abby has major reservations about doing this deal with the commander. “She’s a child. They’re being led by a child,” she says of the commander to Marcus out of Clarke’s earshot.

“So are we,” replies Marcus simply, referring to Clarke

The Ark party set off with the Grounders to return to the massacre village. On the way Bellamy expresses a desire to try to get into Mount Weather to gather intelligence. Clarke says no and admits it’s because she doesn’t want to loose him too.

Along the way Clarke keeps seeing a ghostly Finn. He just stares back and says nothing.

The vampire looking president’s son in Mount Weather is told that the Grounders have not attacked the Ark people as expected. Obviously the Mountain Men are keeping a close eye on the outside. Perhaps they can sabotage a potential truce…

When Clarke’s party get to the massacre village some of the villagers are understandably not happy to see the “Sky People”. One Grounder man speaks up against the commander who sets her big hairy guardian dude on him. He starts beating the man to a pulp until Clarke tells the commander how the Ark people will be blamed for his death too.

In Mount Weather Jasper and Monty are trying to work out how to send a radio signal to the outside. Monty disguises himself in a radiation suit and gets the control room all to himself under the pretext of a decontamination. He manages to turn off the jammer and transmit a recorded message. But he’s found out and captured.

In the Grounder base there is to be a feast to celebrate the new truce. Marcus passes a bottle of some unspecified booze across as a gift. The commander gets her hairy guardian to take a drink first to ensure its not poisoned. Clarke is about to drink hers when the hairy dude convulses. Someone finds a vial of poison in Raven’s backpack. Well that feast is quickly over. The Grounders lock up the Ark people while they discuss how to kill them. Lincoln wants to act as a mediator but is considered “one of them”.

They decide to kill Raven for the attempted assassination. They tie her to a stake and start cutting her with knives. Hairy healer dude suggests to Lincoln that he and the Ark people should leave while they still have a chance.

As this is going on Clarke is off by herself, almost catatonic with the thought of how it’s all gone wrong. Then ghostly Finn looks down at the poisoned cup lying on the ground. Clarke snaps into action and runs outside. She gets the bottle of booze and drinks from it in view of the commander and the others. She doesn’t get sick. The poison was in the cup already she declares.

But who put it there? Clarke remembers the hairy bodyguard searched Raven’s stuff as they entered the village. The commander confronts him and he admits he was trying to destroy the truce because the Sky People are not to be trusted.

So now it’s his turn to be tied to a tree and cut with knives. Raven observes and realises the fate Finn had in store and why Clarke had to kill him. Finally the hairy bodyguard tells his commander to be strong and she sticks a big sword through his chest. Nice.

Afterwards Clarke realises that she needs to be more like the commander and not put personal feelings in the way of what needs to be done. By now they have heard Jasper’s radio message and she tells Bellamy he needs to get into Mount Weather and report back.

In Mount Weather Monty is put in a cage. No doubt a spot of bone marrow harvesting is in store.

A solid if not Earth-shattering episode. The main development is perhaps Clarke deciding to not let friendships stop her from what doing what needs done, no doubt as a coping mechanism for having to kill Finn. Also of interest is the correct observation made by Marcus that Clarke is actually in charge,
